Henry Jardine Says Goodbye to Mauritius After Three Years in Office

The United States Ambassador to Mauritius, Henry Jardine, hosted a farewell gathering on Wednesday, January 7, at MacCarthy House in Floréal. He praised the professionalism of Mauritian journalists, especially during the 2024 elections.

Having arrived in February 2023, he mentioned that he was warmly welcomed and took the opportunity of his tenure to explore the country, meet with communities, and participate in numerous events in Mauritius and Rodrigues, accompanied by his wife Kathleen and their son Thomas.

His term was marked by strengthened bilateral relations, including the construction of a new embassy complex and the reopening of the American mission in Seychelles. Cooperation in security and the fight against financial crime were priorities, as well as economic development: Mauritius will serve as a strategic platform towards Africa and India and will host the U.S.–Africa Business Summit in 2026.

Henry Jardine also highlighted the cultural and human richness of Mauritius and assured that his deputy, Craig Meyer, will continue the diplomatic mission, ensuring the continuity of relations. He leaves the island with gratitude and affection.
