Argy, Flacq: CWA Guard Attacked, His Shelter Vandalized
A violent attack occurred against an employee of the Central Water Authority (CWA) who was stationed as a guard at the CPF (Containerised Pressure Filter - mobile water treatment station) located in Argy (Centre de Flacq) around 10:30 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. This information was released in a statement by the CWA on Thursday.
The CWA employee, who sustained serious injuries, was urgently transported by police, called to the scene following the attack, to SAJ Hospital where he was admitted.
The assailants also vandalized the "watchman shelter" located within the premises of this mobile water treatment station. Damage assessment is currently underway.
It is noteworthy that this is the second similar incident to occur within a month.
While wishing a swift recovery to its employee who was attacked at work, the CWA strongly condemns such violence, which appears to be increasingly common at these sites across the country. Numerous theft cases have been reported recently.
Such incidents can have serious implications for water production and distribution. For instance, the CPF in Argy serves approximately 1,000 to 1,500 households.
The CWA has implemented strict measures to enhance security around its facilities nationwide. Additionally, consultations will be initiated with law enforcement authorities to develop a strategy aimed at ensuring greater safety for CWA employees stationed at these strategic but often remote sites.
The CWA also relies on the cooperation of its subscribers and the general public in this national effort.
