Metro Express Increases Frequency Starting January 12, 2026
Metro Express Ltd (MEL) will implement a new operational schedule beginning Monday, January 12, 2026, as announced in a statement released on January 7. This revision comes in response to increased ridership and aims to improve service regularity across the entire network.
According to MEL, the schedule adjustment is intended to reduce waiting times and streamline daily commutes. Both main lines of the network will be affected.
Line 1: Continuous frequency between Curepipe and Place d'Armes
Starting January 12, trains will run every ten minutes, uninterrupted, from 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday, between Curepipe and Place d'Armes. This measure eliminates the long waiting times observed during off-peak hours and enhances flexibility for workers and students.
Line 2: Increased frequency during peak hours between Rose Hill and Réduit
On Line 2, frequency will be increased during peak hours between Rose Hill and Réduit, with trains running every ten minutes from 7 AM to 9 AM in the morning and again from 4 PM to 6 PM in the evening. This arrangement targets commuting for work and education towards this educational and economic hub.
