Private Flight of Mamy Ravatomanga from Madagascar to Mauritius: Malagasy Civil Aviation Seizes Anti-Corruption Unit
The Civil Aviation of Madagascar (ACM) has announced that it has requested the Malagasy Anti-Corruption Unit to open an investigation into the private jet flight on the night of October 11, 2025, from Ivato International Airport to Mauritius. The flight was carrying Malagasy billionaire Mamy Ravatomanga. This information was made public in a statement on January 6, 2026, signed by the new director-general of the ACM, Alban Rakotoarisoa. This case has drawn the attention of Mauritian authorities.
The aircraft, registered as 5R-HMR, allegedly left Malagasy territory without an official flight plan or the necessary exit authorization properly recorded with the competent authorities. The ACM believes that these failures warrant a review of the conditions under which this flight was authorized and conducted.
The compliance with airport security and control procedures, access to Ivato Airport facilities, as well as the enforcement of border police and customs regulations will be examined. The agency notes that there may be violations of the existing criminal legislation in Madagascar.
Currently, Mamy Ravatomanga is in custody as part of a judicial process related to money laundering allegations. Among the passengers were also former Malagasy Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, his wife, and family members of Mamy Ravatomanga. The plane landed in Mauritius after reporting difficulties that necessitated an emergency landing.
