Dr. Philip Baker, a prominent international tax expert, met with Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam at his office on Thursday, January 8, 2026. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts and reforms aimed at modernizing and strengthening the country's tax system, particularly concerning the introduction of the 'Qualified Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax' (QDMTT). During his visit to Mauritius, Dr. Baker took note of various proposals submitted by stakeholders in the financial sector and carefully reviewed them to ensure a broad and inclusive consultation. The goal remains to position Mauritius as a competitive jurisdiction while ensuring full compliance with international standards, including those set by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
