Arsenal, the league leader, was expected to face Liverpool last night, while its competitors Manchester City and Aston Villa dropped points on Wednesday in a Premier League where Brentford and its Brazilian striker Igor Thiago continue to shine.

Both clubs managed by interim coaches, namely Manchester United (7th, 32 pts) and Chelsea (8th, 31 pts), were unable to secure the expected victories against much lower-ranked teams.
