The eradication of rats on four islands in the northeastern part of Peros Banhos, in the Chagos Archipelago, is one of the most ambitious ecological restoration projects ever undertaken in the Indian Ocean. Led by the Chagos Conservation Trust (CCT), this program is part of a long-term rewilding initiative called "Healthy Islands, Healthy Reefs," aimed at repairing ecosystems that have been weakened for decades by the introduction of invasive species.
