Metro Express Enhances Its Service: Increased Frequencies Starting January 12

Metro Express Limited (MEL) is improving tram frequencies with the implementation of a new operational schedule, effective from Monday, January 12, 2026. "In a move to actively listen and respond to the increased ridership, MEL has revised its schedules to reduce waiting times and streamline daily commutes for Mauritians," states a company release. This optimization affects the two main lines of the network.

Line 1: Optimized Continuous Service (Curepipe + Place d’Armes). To meet the constant mobility needs throughout the day, the frequency of trains on the main line has been standardized.

  • A train every 10 minutes continuously from 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday.

This measure aims to eliminate prolonged intervals during off-peak hours, providing greater flexibility for professional and student users.

Line 2: Enhanced Service During Peak Hours (Rose-Hill + Réduit). On the line connecting Rose-Hill to the educational and business hub of Réduit, emphasis has been placed on high-traffic periods.

  • Morning: A train every 10 minutes between 7 AM and 9 AM.
  • Afternoon: A train every 10 minutes between 4 PM and 6 PM.

This increase in service aims to facilitate commuting during peak traffic times for work and study.
