In the first half of January 2026, the seismic activity observed in the Rodrigues region has captured the attention of authorities and rekindled concerns among the population. On Tuesday, January 6, at 2:09 PM, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake was recorded by the Vacoas meteorological station. The epicenter was located at coordinates 19.2° South and 63.9° East, approximately 77 kilometers northeast of Rodrigues, at an estimated depth of 10 kilometers.
