The death toll from a major fire at a shopping mall in Pakistan has reached 67, according to a new report from the police. The blaze broke out last Saturday at Gul Plaza in Karachi, the country's largest city, and took more than 24 hours to be fully extinguished. Authorities report that 77 individuals are missing, as per their families, since the incident.
Search and recovery operations have been hampered by the extensive damage caused by the fire, while emergency teams continue to sift through the debris of the 6,500 square meter (70,000 square feet) complex.
Police indicate that identifying the victims is challenging due to the condition of the bodies. So far, 15 individuals have been formally identified, and efforts are ongoing to locate all the missing persons.
