Drug Prevention: The NADC Establishes the Foundations of a Cohesive National Strategy

On January 20, 2026, the National Agency for Drug Control (NADC) held its first meeting of the Prevention and Awareness Subcommittee in Ebène, as part of the gradual establishment of its operational structures. The meeting focused on presenting the NADC's mandate in the field of prevention and awareness, clarifying its strategic role in guiding, coordinating, and enhancing national efforts to reduce drug demand.

Among the stakeholders present were representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, the Prison Health Services, the Mahatma Gandhi Ayurved Hospital Human Service Trust, the Dr. Idrice Goomany Treatment Center, Sangram Sewa Sadan St Paul, as well as NGOs such as Development Gathering Information and Prevention, Collectif Urgence Toxida, AILES, Renaissance, Dibout Ansam, Action for Health Care and Prevention, Safire, and Chrysalide.

During the meeting, the NADC outlined the seven intervention pillars that will structure its national approach to prevention and awareness. Discussions also provided an overview of best international and local practices, emphasizing the need to move beyond short-term "quick wins" that are visible but not necessarily effective, in favor of evidence-based, sustainable, and targeted interventions.

Additionally, the NADC informed participants that in the future, prevention and awareness campaigns implemented by NGOs and other institutions will require validation by the Agency. This measure aims to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with the national strategy, while enhancing the effectiveness and credibility of national prevention efforts.
