Mauritian Creole: The National Language is No Longer Rejected as a Main Subject for the HSC

A remarkable breakthrough. The Cabinet decided yesterday that Mauritian Creole (KM) will be offered as a main subject for the Higher School Certificate starting this academic year. This marks the conclusion of a long journey, or rather a struggle, which reached a climax the day before, Thursday, with a sharp call from Arnaud Carpooran, president of the Creole Speaking Union, on a private radio station.

According to him, the absence of KM as a main subject at the HSC was a situation "profoundly injurious..."
