mytGPT Educational Project: Making Artificial Intelligence an Educational Companion for Every Child, Says Veemal Gungadin
The mytGPT Educational Project, aimed at integrating an AI-powered educational assistant in schools, was officially launched on Monday, January 26, by Senior Chief Executive Devendre Gopaul and Chief Technical Officer Ricaud Auckbur from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, alongside CEO of Mauritius Telecom, Veemal Gungadin. The event took place at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in Bell Village and included a demonstration session at James Burty David SSS, showcasing the features of this tool intended to revolutionize education in the country.
This launch follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last October between the Ministry of Education and Mauritius Telecom, aimed at piloting the introduction of mytGPT Education, an AI coach developed by the telecom company's Innovation team, into the Mauritian education system. This initiative reflects a common commitment to making education in Mauritius inclusive and equitable.
Eight Schools to Pave the Way
The mytGPT educational pilot project will target students in Grades 4, 7, 8, and 9 and will be deployed in eight schools, including four primary schools: Raoul Rivet Govt School in Port Louis, Emilienne Rochecouste Govt School in Quatre Bornes, R. Gajadhur Govt School in Centre de Flacq, and Willoughby Govt School in Mahébourg; and four secondary schools: James Burty David SSS in Bell Village, Ebene SSS Girls in Réduit, Vacoas SSS Boys in Vacoas, and France Boyer de la Giroday SSS in Plaine Magnien.
An Intelligent Assistant for Learning
The educational platform will provide students with continuous personalized support, including detailed explanations, interactive exercises, and secure content in English, French, and phonetic Creole, tailored to each level.
For teachers, it will automate the creation of quizzes and teaching materials, reduce administrative burdens, and provide performance analytics to better guide instruction.
Resources and Training for Optimized Learning
Over 50 educational resources aligned with the National Curriculum Framework have been integrated into the mytGPT Education platform to enhance classroom learning and promote each student's success.
Additionally, training sessions were organized in December 2025 and January 2026 for teachers, covering the fundamentals of AI, platform navigation, prompt engineering, and best pedagogical practices for course preparation and assessments.
Democratizing Access to Artificial Intelligence
According to the CEO of Mauritius Telecom, this initiative is part of the "AI Enablement for All," a core aspect of the company's new strategy aimed at democratizing access to AI across the country.
"The implementation of mytGPT Education in schools is fully aligned with our strategy, which aims to make artificial intelligence a tool for national progress that is accessible to all. Through this project, every child in Mauritius will have access to an AI educational companion capable of supporting their learning and providing them with the means to succeed, thus contributing to an inclusive and equitable education," stated Veemal Gungadin, CEO of Mauritius Telecom.
Rodrigues Has Already Launched the Experimentation
In July 2025, the mytGPT educational platform was piloted in the classes of Rodrigues, specifically at Collège Maréchal, with 70 Grade 12 students focusing on mathematics, accounting, and physics.
A Vision for the Future of Education
Through this collaboration between Mauritius Telecom and the Ministry of Education, Mauritius takes a significant step toward an inclusive, sovereign, and future-oriented education system where no child is left behind.
