Allegation of Forgery: Noorhossen Ramoly Claims He Never Received Rs 200,000

"This letter was written for her (Naserah Bibi Vavra) to hand in for the lease. I only did this to facilitate her loan to buy my car. I have never received Rs 200,000 (...)". This statement was made by Noorhossen Ramoly in his deposition dated June 8, 2021, which was read and submitted on January 26, 2026, in the intermediate court. This resident of the capital is facing an accusation of forgery. The offense allegedly occurred on October 12, 2006, in Port-Louis.

The depositions were presented by Sergeant Nimdhoo, the lead investigator in this case, during a hearing presided over by Magistrate Jade Ngan Chai King. The accused also stated that he had no objections to the police graphologist's report, which concluded that the handwriting on the letters was indeed his own.

Furthermore, Noorhossen Ramoly declared that he voluntarily accompanied the investigators to his home for a search as part of the inquiry. No forged documents or incriminating devices were reportedly discovered there.

During cross-examination by Me Rishi Hurdoyal, the defense attorney, Sergeant Nimdhoo confirmed that the loan had been fully repaid, with interest, in three years instead of the originally planned four years. He specified that the matter was reported to the police after the loan had already been settled. However, the investigator indicated he could not clarify the criteria the bank used to grant the loan to Naserah Bibi Vavra.

It is worth noting that Noorhossen Ramoly, aged 54, pleads not guilty to the formal charge of "forgery of private writing." He is accused of having penned a letter addressed to ABC Finance & Leasing Ltd on October 12, 2006, suggesting that Naserah Bibi Vavra had paid Rs 200,000 to obtain a loan of Rs 500,000 for the purchase of a vehicle. The prosecution is represented by Me Yashnee Mungroo, State Counsel.
