Violence Against Women: Over 40 Cases Reported Since the Start of the Year in Mauritius

More than 40 cases of violence against women have been reported since the beginning of the year in Mauritius. This figure was announced by Arianne Navare-Marie during the closing of a validation workshop for the "Draft Domestic Abuse Bill" held on Tuesday morning, January 27, at the Caudan Arts Centre.

According to the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, these cases have been reported across the twelve "Family Support Services" on the island. In her speech, she emphasized the need to modernize this law to better address current realities, noting that violence is not limited to physical assaults but also includes psychological, emotional, and economic abuse.
