Alleged 'The Voice' Auditions: Mauritians Report Suspected Online Scam
Mauritians are raising concerns about a suspected scam involving alleged auditions for ‘The Voice,’ an American reality music show aired in multiple countries.
The situation began in November 2025 when Lulu, a 25-year-old, discovered an advertisement on social media announcing auditions for ‘The Voice.’ A lifelong music and singing enthusiast, she was intrigued and quickly initiated the application process.
The entire procedure was conducted online. After first contacting them via WhatsApp for more information, she was asked to make a payment through a mobile app to participate in the auditions and to submit a video of herself singing as a demo. She complied and paid Rs 1,000.
Subsequently, she was asked to pay additional fees: Rs 1,000 to attend the event as a member of the audience. Lulu then purchased six tickets for her family. Ticket prices varied by category: Diamond (Rs 4,000), Gold (Rs 2,500), Silver (Rs 1,800), and Bronze (Rs 1,000).
While the process already raised suspicions, these were confirmed later. According to Lulu, the company supposedly organizing the event, as noted in promotional materials, claimed there had been a theft by one of its employees, who allegedly misappropriated participants' funds, as well as issues related to the venue where the auditions were supposed to take place. About a hundred people are believed to be affected.
Lulu then sent an email requesting a refund. She was asked to provide her bank account number and proof of payment. According to her, the company also advised her to take action against the person who collected the payment if it was not made directly to the company.
According to our sources, the mother of one of the registered candidates visited the company's office, but it had been abandoned since December.
Additionally, the J&J Auditorium, where the auditions were said to take place according to this company, formally denied the claim in a statement, stating that no reservation had been made in their name.
A presumed victim shared an email from the company listed on the promotional visual as the organizer of the alleged ‘The Voice’ auditions. It states: "Following the Voice Next Audition, we wish to inform you that an internal issue has indeed arisen within the company, leading to several requests for refunds of the Rs 1,000 fee. […] However, please note that refunds will be processed within a maximum of one to two weeks, and not immediately, due to the volume of requests being handled."
A group of individuals who feel wronged plans to go to the Central Barracks this Wednesday to file a complaint.
The Logo of Défi Media Group Used Fraudulently
The Défi Media Group logo appears alongside two other media outlets on one of the visuals circulated on social media to promote this alleged program. However, our group has no connection to these supposed ‘The Voice’ auditions.
