Video of a man playing guitar asked to leave the Metro Express: MEL's clarifications

A video showing a man being asked to leave a Metro Express train is currently circulating on social media. The footage suggests he was accused of disturbing passengers by playing guitar onboard. However, the situation may be different from what the video implies.

In a statement, the management of Metro Express Ltd (MEL) clarifies that the shared clip does not show the full scene and could be misleading regarding the nature of their teams' intervention.

The incident occurred at 6:30 PM, just as the train was departing from the Curepipe station. The Train Captain, responsible for the safety of the train and its passengers, informed the Operations Control Centre (OCC) that a group of people had gathered near his driving cabin, including an individual playing the guitar.

According to MEL, the noise level and commotion near the cabin were affecting the driver’s concentration, which is crucial for safe operation. Following this report, security officers and staff members intervened.

Contrary to some online interpretations, the intervention was conducted courteously, the management assures. The passenger was invited to step down temporarily onto the platform to explain that the situation was disruptive to other passengers and, particularly, to the Train Captain’s focus.

The passenger reportedly cooperated immediately and showed understanding. After checking his valid transport ticket and clarifying the situation, he was allowed to continue his journey as normal.

Metro Express Ltd finally wants to reassure the public that passenger safety remains a top priority, and strict protocols are in place to ensure a safe and pleasant journey for everyone.
