In Port Louis: Follow-up Meeting of the National Task Force on Shab-e-Barat, Ramadan, and Eid-ul-Fitr 2026
Following the National Task Force meeting on Shab-e-Barat, Ramadan, and Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, held on Friday, January 23, 2026, Shakeel Mohamed organized a follow-up meeting this morning at the Citizens Advice Bureau, Route Nicolay, in Port Louis, with representatives from the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) and the Mauritius Police Force, according to a Facebook post published on his page on Wednesday, January 28.
This meeting addressed public concerns regarding the presence of stray dogs near mosques in several areas, including Port Louis, Pamplemousses (Le Hochet), Flacq, Vacoas–Phoenix, and other locations across the country. These issues, already raised during the National Task Force discussions, require coordinated and sustained action.
The discussions also covered security measures, traffic management, and crowd control, particularly during Shab-e-Barat and throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The Mauritius Police Force plays a central role in ensuring public safety, organizing parking near mosques, and providing support during prayers, including those for Fajr early in the morning if necessary.
The government reaffirms its commitment to closely collaborate with stakeholders and maintain constant follow-up before and after major consultations, ensuring that events proceed safely, respecting traditions, and in an organized manner, while promptly and coordinated addressing community concerns.
