Electoral Reform: Proposals to Avoid Another False Start

Since the 60-0 result in 1982, there has been a consensus among all major political parties on the need to reform the electoral system to ensure parliamentary representation and fairness for parties receiving around 30% of the votes but not winning any seats. Forty-three years later, the country has still not implemented reforms to address the issues of disproportionality inherent in the First Past the Post (FPTP) system, where votes do not translate effectively into seats.
