HSC 2024: Awardees Selected Based on Social Criteria and Merit Recognized for Academic Excellence
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the outstanding achievements of a group of twenty-four awardees who received additional scholarships based on merit and social criteria for their excellent results in the 2024 Cambridge Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations were celebrated during a reception at the State House in Réduit.
Among the distinguished guests present at the event were the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dharam Gokhool, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Vice President Robert Hungley, and Minister of Education and Human Resources, Dr. Mahend Gungapersad.
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that education is at the heart of socio-economic prosperity and long-term development for the nation, recalling the historic introduction of free education by Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam in 1977, which laid the foundation for an inclusive educational system. He also highlighted the Equal Opportunities Act as an important measure to ensure fairness, equality, and access to education for all, regardless of social background.
Referring to the government program for 2025-2029, which places youth at the center of national development, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam reaffirmed that young people are the driving force for the nation's future. He urged them to actively contribute to transforming Mauritius into a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous country.
In the same spirit, the Minister of Education reiterated the government's commitment to support families and empower deserving students to achieve significant academic and professional goals. He encouraged the awardees to fully leverage the scholarship program and utilize their skills and talents for the benefit of the nation.
