Fake Car Accident for Insurance Benefits: Three Suspects Arrested
A trio suspected of orchestrating a scheme to report a fake car accident on the Terre-Rouge highway last Thursday night is currently behind bars.
One of the suspects had presented himself at the Terre-Rouge police station that same evening, claiming to be the driver of the damaged vehicle. However, on Friday, the station head, Assistant Superintendent Rajesh Moorghen (featured in the photo), an experienced investigator, subjected him to thorough questioning after noticing the extent of the damages to the car.
During the interrogation, the man eventually confessed that he was not driving the vehicle at the time of the incident but had been asked to "take responsibility" for the accident.
His two alleged accomplices—the owner of the damaged vehicle and another suspect, who is a civil servant—were also apprehended and placed in police custody. They will face charges of "Conspiracy to Pervert the Course of Justice."
The police suspect this trio acted in concert with the aim of defrauding an insurance company.
