Mauritian Creole will be introduced as a core subject in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) starting in 2026. However, access to this program will be subject to clearly defined criteria.

Students must hold a School Certificate or a General Certificate of Education (GCE). For the School Certificate, candidates are required to pass English and obtain a minimum of three credits, including one in Mauritian Creole, in the same examination sitting.

As for the General Certificate of Education, applicants must have passed five subjects to be eligible.
