Rivière-Noire: Launch of the Commission for Creole Causes by Mgr Durhône
The Commission for Creole Causes was officially launched on Sunday, February 1st, by Monsignor Jean Michaël Durhône. The Bishop of Port-Louis presided over a mass at the Saint-Augustin Church in Rivière-Noire, in celebration of the 191st anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
This new body succeeds the Diocesan Committee of February 1st, with a renewed commitment to reflection and action around Creole memory and identity.
In his sermon, Monsignor Durhône emphasized that recognizing Creole identity also involves acknowledging its history. He stated that this commission will aim to pave the way for emotional, spiritual, and social liberation for the Creole cause.
It is worth noting that a wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for this afternoon at Morne.
