Donald Trump Hopes for an Agreement with Iran Despite Ongoing Repression
As U.S. President Donald Trump continues to issue warnings amid the violently suppressed protests in Iran, he stated on Sunday that he hopes to reach an agreement with Tehran. According to the U.S.-based NGO Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), over 42,000 individuals have been arrested since the start of the protests, with 6,842 confirmed deaths, predominantly among demonstrators. However, the organization notes that the actual toll could be much higher, with over 17,000 deaths currently under verification.
Trump's expressed desire to find a deal with Iran, despite having threatened military intervention, has immediately impacted oil markets. Oil prices dropped by more than 3% during early trading in Asia. The North American WTI crude fell by 3.4% to $62.99 shortly before 2 AM GMT, while North Sea Brent decreased by 3.2% to $67.09.
