Manufacturing Sector: Aadil Ameer Meea Announces 2026 as the Year of Implementation
The program "On the Road to Made in Moris" launched its third cohort on January 28 at the Made in Moris premises in Saint-Pierre. This edition includes 40 companies selected from 97 applications.
In his speech, the Minister of SMEs, Aadil Ameer Meea, reminded that the first two cohorts helped participating companies strengthen their organization and readiness. According to him, the first cohort showed significant completion and labeling rates, while the second confirmed this momentum with companies from various sectors.
"Some companies entered this program with questions and sometimes doubts. They came out more structured and confident," the minister stated. He added that the year 2026 would not be about announcements, but rather about concrete action in the manufacturing sector.
"After a first phase of listening, diagnosis, and consultation, we are entering an implementation phase. The Cabinet has approved the development of an Industry Bill, a legal framework aimed at the entire manufacturing sector," Aadil Ameer Meea clarified.
The minister also mentioned the completion of a new Industry Policy, developed with the technical support of UNIDO. This policy, he emphasized, is based on the realities and constraints of local businesses as well as their ambitions. It aims to provide tools to modernize production, improve productivity, reduce certain rigidities, and direct investment towards sectors considered productive.
Aadil Ameer Meea acknowledged the structural challenges of the manufacturing sector, including high costs, pressure on the workforce, logistics, access to financing, and the difficulty in penetrating certain export markets. "We do not minimize any of these issues. We address them one by one. Our commitment is simple: listen, decide, and act," he stressed.
Additionally, Shirin Gunny praised the preparation of the Industry Bill. She described this initiative as an important and strategic decision, believing that the law would help consolidate a vision of a planned and high-performing industry that creates value. "I see this Industry Bill as an additional root strengthening our industrial ecosystem," she commented.
