Kitchen Battle Season 2: Smritee Makes a Winning Comeback
After the surprising withdrawal of Yanesh, Smritee triumphed in her culinary duel against Grace Wong during an intense elimination round. She thus qualifies for the semi-finals of Kitchen Battle.
Following Yanesh's unexpected exit, forced to leave the competition despite qualifying for the semi-finals, a special elimination episode produced by Le Défi Digital and Le Défi Media Group aired on Monday, February 2, at 8:30 PM. Facing Grace Wong in a heated culinary showdown on Defimedia.info and TéléPlus, Smritee managed to navigate her way to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Yanesh's unexpected resignation left a vacant spot to compete against Sada in the second semi-final. The production decided to give a second chance to previously eliminated contestants, selecting those who had scored the highest points in earlier rounds. This led to the selection of two candidates: Smritee and Grace.
In this special challenge, both competitors had a significant task: they were required to replicate a pizza already on the menu of Mr. Berti restaurant. Unlike previous challenges, no shopping session took place. All necessary ingredients were provided directly to the contestants on set. To judge the creations, the jury consisted of two chefs from Mr. Berti: Chef Kushal and Chef Julien, ensuring adherence to the original recipe.
The challenge took place in the kitchen of the Citronnelle restaurant, located at Vallé Advenature Park. The two candidates had the opportunity to see, touch, smell, and taste the pizza, discovering the name of the dish they were to recreate: Mr. Berti's Hawaiian pizza.
Afterward, the contestants had twenty minutes to recreate the pizza. Stress levels were high, especially when Grace accidentally spilled some ingredients while placing them in the refrigerator.
While both contestants struggled with the dough technique, the chefs took the time to explain how to roll it out. Then, it was a race against time. The jury was lenient and decided not to count the cooking time.
The Jury's Verdict
The creations were then evaluated by the jury. Regarding Smritee, the chefs found her dough well-cooked, although it could have used an additional 5% cooking time. Overall, the flavor was satisfactory.
Even though she should have placed the cheese underneath, all the ingredients and flavors were present. Grace, on the other hand, lacked consistency in ingredient distribution. Her dough was well-cooked, but the dish lacked sauce. The final result was rated as very satisfactory, despite Grace having difficulties with the initial dough preparations.
In the end, Smritee emerged victorious from the duel and qualified for the semi-finals. She will face Sada, a prominent figure on social media. This second semi-final is set for February 4.
As a reminder, the grand winner will receive a plane ticket to Abu Dhabi sponsored by Romantic Travel, while the runner-up will get a ticket to Rodrigues from S Naz Travel & Tours. This second season of Kitchen Battle is sponsored by Mr. Berti, Island Meat Distribution, and Vallé Advenature Park.
