Osman Mahomed: "Elderly Individuals Could Be Assessed on Their Driving Ability"
"The government is considering assessing the driving ability of elderly individuals, with the possibility of requiring a medical certificate," announced Osman Mahomed on RadioPlus this Tuesday, February 3rd. This measure, emphasized the Minister of Land Transport, is part of an initiative aimed at reducing the number of accidents on our roads.
The proposal had already been discussed during a meeting held at the end of January between Minister Osman Mahomed and members of the National Road Safety Council.
It is worth noting that a police sergeant was seriously injured while escorting a Cavadee procession in Pamplemousses on Sunday after being hit by a car driven by a 72-year-old man. The policeman had signaled for him to stop; however, the vehicle reportedly headed towards the police sergeant. During questioning by investigators, the septuagenarian stated that he did not see the sergeant signaling him to stop.
