Obituary: Bruno Dumazel, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mauritius, has passed away at 63

Bruno Dumazel, the current Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mauritius and a surveyor, passed away on Monday, February 2, after a long illness, at the age of 63. He also served as the president of the Alliance Française of Mauritius from 2000 to 2026.

A prominent member of Mauritian Freemasonry, he held the position of Grand Master at the Grand Lodge of Mauritius for about ten years. However, his tenure was not without controversies, especially in recent years, with the departure of around a hundred members in 2025 to establish a new body, the United Grand Lodge of Mauritius.

The wake will be held on Wednesday, February 4, from 8 AM to 9:30 AM at Elie & Sons in Beau-Bassin. The funeral will take place on the same day at 10 AM at the Sacred Heart Church in Beau-Bassin. He will be buried at the Saint-Jean cemetery in Quatre-Bornes. An open ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Alliance Française of Mauritius in Bell Village, and a closed ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 4.
