Tesla Simplifies Its Range and Drops the 'Standard' Label for Its Models 3 and Y

Tesla is undergoing a restructuring of its product names by removing the 'Standard' label, which was introduced only a few months ago. This change, effective on both the American and European configurators, sees entry-level models renamed simply according to their technical configurations, such as Model Y Propulsion and Model 3 Propulsion. This decision marks a return to a clearer strategy aimed at distinguishing powertrains by their transmission capabilities and range, rather than by finish labels, while retaining the 'Premium' and 'Performance' versions for the high-end models.

In parallel to this semantic smoothing, Elon Musk's brand is adapting its catalog to regional specifics by introducing new strategic variants. In the United States, a new all-wheel drive version of the Model Y is being launched at a more competitive price, although it is likely equipped with LFP batteries, resulting in reduced range. In Europe, particularly in the French and German markets, Tesla is focusing on introducing a 'Long Range Propulsion' version, responding to local demand for vehicles that can cover long distances without necessarily relying on all-wheel drive.

This evolution is not a first for the automaker, which has often adjusted its names overnight to reflect changes in its battery technologies or market expectations. By standardizing its range around the terms 'Rear-Wheel Drive' and 'All-Wheel Drive', Tesla aims to stabilize its visual identity while optimizing its pricing competitiveness. These adjustments allow the brand to maintain constant pressure on the electric segment by offering targeted configurations according to the infrastructures and driving habits of each continent.
