During a Journey Between Rose-Hill and Flacq: A Passenger Sexually Assaulted on the Bus

An alarming incident occurred during a bus journey between Rose-Hill and Flacq where a 29-year-old passenger was subjected to sexual assault. Despite her attempts to fend off her assailant, she faced persistent inappropriate touching and obscene comments before the perpetrator fled.

The victim recounted that around 1:45 PM on Tuesday, she noticed a man closely following her at the Rose-Hill bus station. She provided a detailed description of the man: approximately 57 years old, 1.5 meters tall, with a brown complexion and his hair tied back in a short ponytail. He was wearing a yellow shirt and brown pants.

At 1:55 PM, she boarded a bus and sat in the fifth row. The man followed her and immediately sat down beside her.

What followed was a traumatic journey. The suspect firmly grabbed her left hand and said, "Mo res Katborn mwa. Desann devan, nous al kas enn poz." Despite her refusal, he insisted and forcefully kissed her hand while making inappropriate remarks.

The individual escalated his actions by rubbing the passenger's hand against his private parts, lifting her dress to touch her thigh and belly, and pinching her breast twice. Overwhelmed by the trauma and fearing for her safety, the victim struggled to call for help as the assailant insulted her.

Finally, unable to endure any longer, the victim sought help from the bus conductor. However, he allegedly refused to intervene or report the incident to the police, replying, "Res trankil, ou pour met mwa dan problem, akoz ou problem, mo pa kapav pran bis-la al stasion." As a result, the suspect was able to exit at the IVTB stop without any consequences.

The police have received testimonies from two other passengers. Although traumatized, the complainant indicated that she could formally identify her assailant and has made her clothes available for investigators.
