Reform of the Education System: Opinions of Representatives

In the context of the education system reform project, several individuals, including student representatives, teachers, and professors, gathered this morning at the Paul Octave Wiehe auditorium in Réduit to express their views on college admission criteria.

Vassan Carooppunnen, representing Swami Vivekananda SSS of Souillac, emphasized the importance of equality and the interests of children: "In terms of equality, parents have a right. At the end of the day, the interests of the children must come first. Education should be provided equitably to all children."

According to him, the establishment of a federation could bring all parties together, ensure this equality, and create a versatile system capable of addressing the issues faced by Mauritian children in general.

For Saffiyah Edoo, representing Dr. Régis Chaperon SSS, the ministerial proposal regarding grading is encouraging for parents. However, she highlighted the need for a raise in academic standards: "I have noticed an extraordinary decline in standards. Children must be taught the value of hard work from a young age, not wait until they are 16. Regardless of the school, effort must come from the children with support from the parents.",
