Obituary: Olivette, the Matriarch

Born on January 7, 1916, in Saint-Pierre during World War I, Olivette Labonne was the youngest of four children. Her youth was shaped by the professions and activities surrounding the Catholic Church and the nearby cemetery. She lost her mother when she was just 7 years old. Her father, Evariste, was a prominent member of the community. His name is etched at the base of his work: the memorial of Sir William Newton, a statue located in front of the government hotel.
