Escalator Accident at Grand-Baie La Croisette: Family of Noor Fateemah Dilmahomed Claims Nearly Rs 1.3 Billion in Damages

The family of Noor Fateemah Dilmahomed is seeking nearly 1.3 billion rupees in damages following an accident at Grand-Baie La Croisette. They have filed a complaint in the Supreme Court for this purpose. They have retained the services of attorney Me Fezal Bodhoo, with Preetam Chuttoo as their advocate.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, November 23, 2024, on a moving walkway in the shopping center. The young woman’s feet were severely injured by the device.

At the age of 21 at the time of the incident, Fateemah Dilmahomed had to undergo amputation of one leg. She was later transferred to Chennai, India, for advanced medical care, hoping to save her left leg.

The chief technician of the shopping center, questioned by the Criminal Investigation Division, indicated that recent work had been carried out on the concerned travelator and that faulty parts had been replaced prior to the incident.

The technical team from Manser Saxon, who installed the device, was also interviewed. Foreign experts have been dispatched to Mauritius to dismantle the moving walkway.
