Potential Impact on Consumption Due to Middle East Tensions: Acim Calls for an Emergency Response Committee

In light of the tensions in the Middle East, the Consumers Association of Mauritius (Acim) is calling for the establishment of an Emergency Response Committee. The aim is to anticipate the impact of the conflict on consumption in the country.

According to its secretary, Jayen Chellum, a rise in the prices of certain products, particularly fuel, seems inevitable. Although the supply chain is not expected to be disrupted, he fears a long-term increase in costs.

On Friday, March 6, during a press conference, Jayen Chellum stated that he had written to the Prime Minister requesting the formation of this emergency committee, which should bring together the private sector and consumer advocacy groups. He also warned against potential price gouging, especially for unregulated products.
