Public Health: Intensification of Measures Against Infectious Diseases
During the meeting on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Cabinet noted the current situation regarding infectious diseases in Mauritius, as well as the public health and hygiene measures implemented to control their spread.
On February 23, 2026, the Minister of Health chaired a multisectoral meeting with relevant stakeholders to review the actions taken and emphasize the additional measures needed to strengthen health prevention.
The Ministry of Health has released sterile male Aedes albopictus mosquitoes in Triolet, Roches Brunes, and Beau-Bassin to reduce the mosquito population. Rodent control activities are regularly conducted in public health facilities, medical depots, the seaport, and certain airport locations. Spraying operations and larvicidal treatments are being intensified to eliminate mosquito larvae in identified breeding sites.
House-to-house inspections and indoor residual surveys are ongoing.
Additionally, cleaning campaigns of vacant lots are being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Solid Waste Management, as well as with the Ministry of Local Government.
