Road Safety: Inclusion of 'Road Rage' and National Civility Survey

The Cabinet has approved the drafting instructions to the Office of the Attorney General to include "Road Rage" incidents in the bill amending the Road Traffic Act.

During its meeting on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Council of Ministers also noted that the Ministry of Land Transport will collaborate with Cerebro Ltd and Etiquette Africa, a pan-African initiative dedicated to promoting a culture of respect and a non-profit organization working towards behavioral excellence and civility across the African continent, to conduct a national survey on civility and road behavior.

The aim of this survey is to gather experiences, perceptions, and attitudes of motorists, pedestrians, and public transport users, particularly to assess the perceived level of civility, identify major points of friction on Mauritian roads, and evaluate reactions and behaviors in the event of an accident.

The results are expected to provide useful insights to guide awareness campaigns, refine public policies, and plan infrastructure. The survey will particularly focus on citizens' daily commuting experiences and gather their perceptions in various critical scenarios.
