Bérenger: "After March 12, I'll have a lot to say, but I can't speak because I'm in government"

The central committee of the Mauritian Militant Movement met this Saturday, March 7. The leader of the party described the meeting as "rich." Paul Bérenger, in a statement to the press, mentioned a "dramatic situation" for the country in light of the ongoing war in the Middle East.

According to him, the war could impact the expected Rs 10 billion from the upcoming budget. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted a double threat that could endanger Mauritius: the risk of a "downgrading" by Moody's in a very serious economic context, and the risk of being "blacklisted" by the Financial Action Task Force and the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group.

However, Paul Bérenger stated that he would refrain from making waves in the presence of the President of the Seychelles, Patrick Herminie, who will be on a state visit to Mauritius from March 11 to 14, 2026, as the guest of honor for the national celebrations. "So, after March 12, there will be difficult decisions to make, and I will have a lot to say, but I cannot speak because I am in government," he declared.
