Childhood Memories

In the second half of 1954, when my family moved into a house made of "cimarmé" - meaning reinforced concrete - that opened directly onto Saint Denis Street in Port Louis, I felt completely out of place. We were far from the wooden house on La Caverne Street, with its spacious garden full of flower beds and fruit trees, situated across from the "Sirop" river, where we had played freely like wild children.
