Murder Suspicions of Yogeshwaree Bhunjun: Dr. Arvind Ramchurn Held in Police Custody Until March 18
Dr. Arvind Ramchurn has been remanded in police custody until Wednesday, March 18. The police opposed his release on bail during his appearance on Wednesday, March 11, before the Pamplemousses court.
A preliminary murder charge has been filed against him. The doctor was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, March 10, and is suspected of having killed his partner, Yogeshwaree Bhunjun, who is 37 years old.
Following his court appearance, the suspect was taken back to his home in the presence of investigators for a search.
It is worth noting that Yogeshwaree Bhunjun has been missing since February 23. Her disappearance was reported to the Plaine-des-Papayes police by her partner, Arvind Ramchurn, who has since been arrested. At this stage of the investigation, the body of Yogeshwaree Bhunjun has not yet been found.
The doctor explained to investigators that he had a domestic dispute with his partner on February 23 before leaving the house. Upon returning several hours later, she was no longer there. He waited three days before going to the Plaine-des-Papayes police to take "precautionary measures," claiming that his partner had left the house and that he had not heard from her since.
Two days before the doctor's hearing, Suryaprakash Bhunjun, the father of Yogeshwaree Bhunjun, also reported her disappearance to the Plaine-des-Papayes police. He stated that his daughter had not been heard from since January 11, noting that their last contact was a phone call.
According to him, the couple, who had been living together for about 12 years, has two children aged two years and eight months. In August 2024 and August 2025, Yogeshwaree Bhunjun had filed complaints for domestic violence against her partner with the police.
