Mauritius Telecom Celebrates Independence by Supporting Education

As Mauritius marks its 58th year of independence, Mauritius Telecom reaffirms its commitment to Mauritian education. The national telecommunications leader, through its CSR arm, the Mauritius Telecom Foundation (MTF), is providing financial support to Morne Primary School for a series of educational projects. The event took place on Wednesday, March 11, at the school, as part of the celebrations for Independence and Republic Day, with MT's CEO, Veemal Gungadin, serving as the guest of honor at the flag-raising ceremony.

"An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest." This quote from Benjamin Franklin resonates strongly with Mauritius Telecom's commitment to education. Its financial aid will enable this school in the southwest of the country to implement various initiatives, including setting up libraries in classrooms and establishing after-school educational support activities.

The school will also benefit from a year of free internet service. Additionally, Mauritius Telecom has provided the school with a printer and laptops, enhancing access for students and teachers to modern educational tools.

"Preparing the future of Mauritius starts in the classrooms. By investing in education, we promote inclusion and equal opportunities, contributing to the development of the talents that will build the Mauritius of tomorrow," stated MT's CEO, Veemal Gungadin.

This institutional commitment is complemented by a wave of solidarity from the employees of Mauritius Telecom. True to the value of 'We care,' employees contributed Rs 61,090 for the purchase of educational materials, school supplies, community games, and essential equipment for the students and the institution. This mobilization reflects the collective will of the Mauritius Telecom teams to make a concrete contribution to the well-being and growth of children.

The support granted to Morne Primary School is part of a broader initiative by Mauritius Telecom. In a world where digital technology is transforming jobs and skills, it is essential to improve learning conditions to provide real equality of opportunity for all children.

The Mauritius Telecom Foundation regularly supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with school materials – exercise books, school bags, and other essentials – to help them continue their education.

Recently, the MTF donated fans and a laptop to the Royal College of Port Louis, enhancing learning conditions and access to digital resources.

However, Mauritius Telecom's commitment extends beyond material support. Since the beginning of the year, Mauritius Telecom has launched the educational pilot project mytGPT.

This project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, marks a new step in pedagogical support. The pilot, launched in eight primary and secondary schools, introduces an intelligent educational assistant that provides personalized tracking for students while offering teachers innovative tools to energize their practices.

Through its numerous actions, Mauritius Telecom expresses a clear ambition: to go beyond its role as a telecom operator and actively participate in the educational and digital development of Mauritius.
