Demographics: Mauritius Loses Residents but Gains Women and Seniors

The population of the Republic of Mauritius has decreased to 1,241,856 residents, with a negative growth rate of -0.2%. Women now outnumber men, bringing the sex ratio down to 97.7 men for every 100 women. At the same time, the aging of the population is accelerating. These are the three major trends revealed by Statistics Mauritius in their report "Population and Vital Statistics," published on Wednesday, March 11th.

With 1,241,856 residents in 2025, the Republic of Mauritius has recorded a net decline of 2,621 individuals, marking a negative growth rate of -0.2%.
