Fuel: Mauritius Considers Direct Supply from India via Indian Oil Corporation

The Prime Minister has announced that Mauritius may soon source fuel directly from India. An agreement is being considered with the Indian Oil Corporation, which is owned by the Indian government.

Although the country currently has sufficient stocks, the government aims to plan ahead. Authorities express confidence in quickly finalizing this agreement with India, viewed as a friendly and strategic partner. The goal is also to positively impact the prices of gasoline and diesel in the long run.

Discussions have already begun at the State Trading Corporation regarding the technical aspects of the agreement with Indian Oil Corporation, which should not be confused with Indian Oil Mauritius. Diplomatic negotiations are ongoing between the two governments to allow Mauritius to obtain these petroleum products at more competitive prices.

The contract with the government-owned company is expected to take effect after June 2026, which is the end of the current agreement with OQ Trading, the main fuel supplier since 2025. In the meantime, an international tender is expected to be launched by the end of April.

One of the main advantages for Mauritius would be the establishment of a "G to G" agreement, made directly between the Mauritian and Indian governments, without intermediaries. The contract duration is set to extend from three to five years, aiming to ensure a stable and secure supply and to avoid shortages despite fluctuations in the international market.
