Death Threats: Event Organizer Muz Detained

After filing a defamation complaint on social media, Muzaffar Lallmamode, known as "Muz", found himself arrested by the police in connection with a verbal threat case. A controversial figure on social media in recent days, the 32-year-old event organizer and call center manager was placed in police custody.

Lallmamode had gone to the Vallée-des-Prêtres police station to lodge a complaint for "Breach of ICTA", claiming he was the target of serious allegations circulating on Facebook. According to his statement, several posts linked him to synthetic drug trafficking and money laundering.

However, after registering his complaint, the police informed him that he was himself the subject of a complaint for verbal threats, dating back to December 13, filed by a former business partner.

According to this partner, Lallmamode had visited his business in Plaine-Verte, disconnected the CCTV camera in the reception area, and made threats. The plaintiff's deposition alleges he said: "If you don't give me the 30 million you took from me, I will cut off your arms and your legs, put you on a rolling chair, and I will cut your wife and your two children, and everyone else who is there." After making these statements, Lallmamode reportedly left the premises.

This is not the first time Muzaffar Lallmamode has attracted the attention of authorities. In August 2025, he was arrested in Port-Louis with 16,600 US dollars and 390,000 Rupees in his car. In this case, he currently faces a provisional charge of money laundering. The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) also questioned him regarding an investigation related to the Wendip Appaya case.

Additionally, on March 5, Lallmamode filed a complaint for knife threats and assault at the Moka police station, citing an incident at C-Care hospital where he had been admitted.

More recently, he sought an injunction from the Supreme Court against several individuals he accuses of defaming him on social media. In his request, he claimed to be a victim of threats and intimidation through various online posts. The defendants in the case include Ishtihaq Caunhye, Suhayl Mamode, and Yogeshwar Sing Priyam, identified as social workers. Constable Baichoo is also named as a defendant, while the police commissioner is listed as a co-defendant.

Sitting in chambers before the Supreme Court, Judge Sulakshna Beekarry-Sunassee ordered on March 9 that the individuals implicated refrain from posting any content deemed defamatory against Mohammad Muzaffar Ali Lallmamode on social media.

The police are requesting CCTV footage from the Wellkin clinic. In a counter-affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the police commissioner stated he wishes to verify the allegations made by Mohammad Muzaffar Ali Lallmamode. He indicated that he has requested CCTV images from the Wellkin clinic following Lallmamode's complaint.

The police commissioner (CP) filed a counter-affidavit before the Supreme Court on Friday, March 13, 2026, regarding Lallmamode's injunction request. This document was sworn by Inspector Abdool Sameer Fazullah on behalf of the CP, who is cited as a co-defendant in the case. It was presented by the CP's legal advisors, Mes Akhil Ramdahen, Principal State Counsel, and Arveena Ghose, Principal State Attorney. In his request, Lallmamode alleges that he was threatened by Ishtihaq Caunhye, Suhayl Mamode, and Yogeshwar Sing Priyam in the presence of Constable Baichoo. He seeks an injunction to prevent any threats or defamatory posts against him on social media.

The interim order previously obtained by Lallmamode against the four defendants, prohibiting them from posting on social media, was not extended this time.

In his response, the CP states that he does not admit to any incidents that occurred at the Beau-Bassin and Rose Hill police stations.

Regarding the alleged assault at the C-Care Wellkin clinic, he confirms that Lallmamode filed a complaint on March 6, 2026, against Yogeshwar Sing Priyam. The latter presented himself at the Moka police station on March 7, 2026, and stated: "I will not provide any investigation in this matter. I will say everything in court."

The CP adds that he requested the Wellkin clinic management to provide the CCTV footage from March 6, 2026, while staff members are to be heard. The CP also indicated that he would comply with any Supreme Court decision in this matter.

The judge asked the parties to submit legal arguments on whether an injunction can be granted to prevent the commission of an offense. A hearing in this matter is scheduled for March 18. She also clarified that Ishtihaq Caunhye and Suhayl Mamode may not file an affidavit, as they are not required to incriminate themselves. During the hearing, Mohammad Muzaffar Ali Lallmamode was represented by Mes Sailesh Seebaruth, Junayd Chummun, Neil Pillay, and Pazany Thandarayan, attorney. Ishtihaq Caunhye was represented by Mes Bilaal Chattaroo and Nadeem Hyderkhan, while Me Anas Sakhawoth represented Suhayl Mamode.
