Prisons: Dev Jokhoo Cites Personal Reasons and Resigns

After 11 months at the helm of the prisons, Dev Jokhoo has stepped down from his position. In his resignation letter addressed to the Prime Minister and dated March 17, 2026, the Commissioner of Prisons cites "urgent personal issues" that prevent him from continuing in his role.

He also notes that he is adhering to a 30-day notice period, as stipulated in the terms of his appointment. In this document, Dev Jokhoo expresses that he has "fully appreciated" his eleven months with the Mauritius Prison Service and conveys his gratitude for the trust placed in him.

However, RadioPlus reported on Monday, based on its sources, that the Prime Minister had allegedly asked him to resign following the awarding of a contract for the supply of frozen fish. This matter was deemed unacceptable by the circle of Navin Ramgoolam. Nevertheless, Dev Jokhoo will remain in his position during his 30-day notice period.
