A Mapou: A Motorcyclist Fatally Struck
Tragic ending for a motorcyclist. Avinash Nunkoo, aged 45, lost his life on the night of Monday, March 16, 2026. The resident of Fond du Sac was riding his motorcycle along the main road in Mapou Leclezio when he was hit by a car driven by a resident of Port Louis.
Severely injured, the bus conductor was transported to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital. A breathalyzer test conducted on the car driver returned negative.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Avinash Nunkoo succumbed to his injuries.
At Shakespeare Avenue in Fond du Sac, the Nunkoo family mourns his passing. His brother, Atish Nunkoo, explains that on Monday evening, the deceased took his brother's motorcycle to return home but never made it. It was only around 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning that the family learned the sad news of his death.
The deceased’s loved ones, deeply saddened, lament that Avinash Nunkoo did not receive immediate first aid after the collision. "My brother was in great pain. If there had been a doctor, my brother's life could have been saved; he could have received treatment," they share.
