Audit Report 2024-2025: Tourism: Rs 4.7 Billion Spent, but Growth Stagnates

Between the financial years 2016-17 and 2024-25, a total of Rs 4.7 billion has been allocated to the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) to promote the destination of Mauritius in international markets. However, these massive expenditures have not resulted in any significant increase in the number of tourists. On average, only 1.38 million visitors were recorded during this period.

While tourism revenues have seen some growth, the overall visitor numbers have remained stagnant, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the promotional efforts.
