Corruption Allegations in Prison: Dev Jokhoo Criticizes FCC's Inaction
In a statement made to the press on Monday, former prison commissioner Dev Jokhoo criticized the slow pace of investigations into corruption within the prison system.
When asked why he had not reported certain cases of corruption to the Financial Crime Commission (FCC), Dev Jokhoo replied:
"I submitted a list of 45 prison guards whom I suspected of unexplained wealth. To date, nothing has been done. The FCC had other priorities."
He also compared the duration of investigations: "When I was in the police, an investigation would not last more than three months. Today, some investigations drag on for three to four years."
This statement came after his hearing before the inquiry board tasked with shedding light on the death of Andy Selmour at Melrose prison on Monday.
