Trade Exchanges: Deficit Decreases to Rs 12.8 Billion with a Drop in Imports

The trade deficit stands at Rs 12.8 billion for January 2026, reflecting a 36.8% decrease compared to December 2025 and a 25.8% decrease compared to January 2025, according to data from Statistics Mauritius released on March 17.

Total international trade fell from Rs 34.7 billion in January 2025 to Rs 30.6 billion at the start of this year. This decline is primarily attributed to a reduction in imports, which decreased by Rs 26 billion.
