Instagram Privacy: Cyberstorm.mu Calls on Mauritians to Sign a Petition
As digital privacy becomes a global concern, the Mauritian NGO Cyberstorm.mu is sounding the alarm. They have recently noted that local Instagram users do not benefit from end-to-end encryption, which ensures the confidentiality of communications.
In light of this situation, considered a form of technological discrimination, Cyberstorm.mu is urging Mauritians to sign a petition on change.org. The message directed to Meta is clear: the privacy of Mauritians is just as valuable as that of European or American users.
The petition calls on Meta to enable end-to-end encryption by default for all accounts based in Mauritius before May 8, 2026, when the company plans to restructure its messaging services.
