MV Mauritius Trochetia: Immersion Aboard a National Symbol

On March 27, 2026, an Open Day on board the MV Mauritius Trochetia was organized by the Mauritius Shipping Corporation Limited (MSCL) at the cruise terminal in Salines, as part of the celebrations for the country's 58th Independence anniversary.

The event was attended by the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries, Arvin Boolell, along with the Junior Minister of the same portfolio, Fabrice David.

Arvin Boolell emphasized that this Open Day provided a unique opportunity for the public to tour the MV Mauritius Trochetia, a symbol of national pride, and to gain insight into the operations and services of the MSCL.

The Minister also discussed the potential development of the Mauritian port, highlighting its strategic position in the southwestern Indian Ocean. He noted that as part of the special relationship between India and Mauritius, India is willing to assist the country in developing its port infrastructure.

Furthermore, he mentioned the proposed Island Container Port project, which could offer strategic advantages amid current geopolitical tensions. Reminding that Mauritius is the 15th largest ocean state in the world due to its vast exclusive economic zone, Dr. Boolell stressed the importance of preserving the country's territorial integrity.

Fabrice David highlighted that this Open Day marks a triple celebration: the 25th anniversary of the MV Mauritius Trochetia, the 58th anniversary of Independence, and the 34th anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius. He described the event as an exceptional opportunity for the public to engage with the ship in a privileged manner.

He also reminded everyone that the MV Trochetia, named after the national flower, continues to be a source of pride for the country. Despite its 25 years of service and nearing the end of its operational life, the ship has been well-maintained and remains in good condition.
